Kay McConaughey is a retired kindergarten teacher, widow, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. But none of these labels and the stereotypes we usually associate with them even remotely describes Kay! Originally from a small steel town outside of Trenton, New Jersey, Kay was an English major at the University of Kentucky until she won a beauty contest that gave her the opportunity to move to New York City to expand her modeling career.
For the past 54 years, Kay has made her home in Texas. She raised her three sons, Mike, Patrick, and Matthew while teaching kindergarten. Today, Mike and Patrick live in Texas, and Matthew could be anywhere in the world at any given time. Yes, you guessed it: Matthew McConaughey is Kay's son!
Kay has long sought ways to support vulnerable families in her community, and she continues to volunteer her time and support to organizations whose purpose is to advocate for women and children. She serves as an active member of The Children's Advocacy Center and Family Outreach as well as being actively involved with a local shelter for abused and battered women. A percentage of the sale of each book will go to some of Kay's favorite charities.
